Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town? I grew up in Long Island just across the sound in Port Washington, NY and moved to Westchester, NY (Rye Brook) 3 years ago.
Child(ren) and Age(s)? My daughter Emily is almost 5 and my son Jacob is 2 ½.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you… My husband says I always have to be working on something! I suppose it is true – at night I won’t just sit on the couch and watch a show. I’ll have the TV on in the background while working on a family photo album and researching our next vacation. Getting all that done at once is relaxing to me! I’m sure other moms understand the pleasure of successful multi-tasking.
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood? It takes a village to raise children these days, and I 100% agree with that. Even though my husband commutes and works long hours, he helps out as much as he can and gives me some downtime on the weekends. I also want to thank my parents for providing me with such great role models and teaching me that kids don’t have to be so overscheduled – it’s fine to just let them be kids!
Favorite things to do with your kids? I love traveling with my kids because it is great to have time to spend with them without feeling like I have so many other things to do! But even just taking them for errands is fun for me because they get so excited by little things. Whether it is a trip to the library or the car wash.
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? I am on the advisory committee for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, which is important in providing resources and support for people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). One of their best programs is a sleepaway camp called Camp Oasis for children with IBD, I went as a camp doctor a few years ago and it was a great experience. We also run an IBD education day at Greenwich Hospital and a walk-a-thon in the spring.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now? I think that the Greenwich community has been very supportive in recognizing that I am a doctor but also a mother of young kids, which helps me give not only medical but also personal parenting advice! While being a working mom has its own struggles at times, I think it helps that I understand the rewards and challenges of being a mom.
