Meet Joy Bauer….. | Rye & Rye Brook Moms

My neighbor, a mom of three and a self-starter entrepreneur with many different balls in the air at all times. I am thrilled to introduce you to our newest “Meet a Mom”… Joy Bauer!

Here is our interview:

Q: Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

A: I grew up in Tappan (right next to Nyack). After college, I moved to NYC (Greenwich Village and the Upper West Side). And I’ve been lucky to call Rye Brook home for the past 18 years.

Q: Do you have children and what are their ages?

A: I have three children — Jesse (23), Cole (21) and Ayden Jane (18)

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

A: Two fun facts: I used to be in a rock band! I played keyboards in a band during high school and college—no singing for me (be very thankful!) And my celebrity crush is Bruce Springsteen.

Q: Is there anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

A: In my family, parenting is a true team effort; My husband, my mom, my dad, my in-laws, my sister (and sisters-in-law), my brothers (and my brother- in-law) all pitched in to help, so I owe them all a special thanks for getting us through with flying colors!

Q: What are your favorite things to do with your kids?

A: Watching movies, cooking and feasting, traveling, gabbing, hiking, listening to music, bowling, even doing nothing is a great time…as long as we’re together.

Q: Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

A: Writing has always been a passion of mine (I just released my 13th book, Joy’s Simple Food Remedies and my first kid’s book is coming out in the fall of 2019). I contribute a monthly column to Woman’s Day magazine and also Savory (the monthly Stop & Shop magazine). I’m also the health and nutrition expert for NBC’s TODAY show.

Q: How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

A: This community is filled with so many supportive and amazingly talented people. Each of my three kids has introduced me to a fantastic group of parents, thanks to their school friends and after-school activities (soccer, theatre, model UN, etc). Also, I have the extraordinary good fortune of living within three blocks of 18 relatives (siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dogs—we’re a huge dog family). Knowing I have family, friends and neighbors to depend on, whether it’s been someone to drive my kids to/from an after-school activity or taste-test recipes for an upcoming cookbook or TV show, it’s such a comfort to know I always have a genuine support system to turn to.
