Meet Sasha… | Rye & Rye Brook Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

We moved to Rye 5 years ago from the Upper East Side following the birth of our 3rd child. Since then, we’ve had a 4th  and I have opened a private child psychology practice in Rye. I love living here and all that it offers. I am very involved with a number of organizations in Rye like the Rye YMCA (I sit on their auxiliary board), Children’s Philanthropy of the Woman’s Club of Rye (I sit on the board and coordinate the fall family portraits), and Rye ACT Coalition (I am on the Healthcare Committee and I am also a school representative). I am extremely invested in our community and its children.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

We have four children ages 10, 7, 5 and 2.5. My older three children attend school in the Rye City School District. My youngest attends preschool in Rye. All of them are engaged in many activities in the area. The variety of options of activities for kids here never ceases to amaze me.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

Running is a favorite outlet to relieve stress, reset and stay healthy. Not surprising at all- I love spending time with children. I find my work with children and families to be extremely rewarding. I also love being a mother to my 4 children. One thing people might be surprised to know is that I love newborns and babies and actually that I provide new baby planning and support to new parents.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

Parenting takes a village. And I owe a lot to my husband and our families, and to the close friends and caregivers that have become like family to us.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

We love spending time at the beach, swimming and just spending time together. My kids are involved with a lot of sports – we love to be fans!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I’d love to tell the Rye and Rye Brook Moms’ Group about my private practice doing educational and behavioral consultation. I am a licensed psychologist in New York and Connecticut and a nationally certified school psychologist with over fifteen years of experience. I work with parents, children, educators and service providers to create sensitive and solution-focused plans to enable children to thrive. Some examples of the services I provide are parent guidance and training, positive behavior support, child psychotherapy, educational consultation and service integration. I just moved to a new office in the heart of Rye. I also do home visits on an as-needed basis. I work with the families of very young children, even as young as 2 years-old to children who are around 10 years-old. I have particular experience with young children, “difficult” children, children with AD/HD, slow learners, changes in family structure/situation and children with developmental differences. To learn more about my practice, please visit my website www.drsashablackwell.comor call me at 914-266-2643.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Since moving here, I realize how much parents here care about their children and community. Over the past several years, I have met with local school professionals, school advocates, other mental health professionals and other parents who are very involved in making their kids’ childhoods as positive, safe and meaningful as possible.
