STEAM VACATION CLUB: DECEMBER 26-29
Ages 6-11 9:00 am-4:00 pm STEAM vacation club prepares today’s youth for tomorrow’s world. Participants will be challenged to question, explore, plan, discover, analyze, and understand the world through the lenses of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Participants will also have free swim on a daily basis. Registered participants will receive the full schedule via email. Please bring a snack and lunch. Registration is on-going until week prior to start date. Family: $75/day; Youth: $85/day; Non-Member: $100/day
BASKETBALL VACATION CLUB: DECEMBER 26-29
Ages 5-11 Half day: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm or Full day: 9:00 am-4:00 pm Basketball instruction and games. Instructors will cover all the fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. Children will be grouped according to age and skill level. Children swim on scheduled days during the week. Registered participants will receive the full schedule via email. Please bring a snack and lunch for full day camp. Join us for gymnastics skills, drills, tumbling, and open workouts. Children swim on scheduled days during the week. Registered participants will receive the full schedule via email. Full day campers will also participate in arts & crafts, group games and children’s fitness. Please bring a snack and lunch for full day camps. Ages 11-15 Our four day clinic includes four hours each day of fun and fitness including agility, cardio, games, strength, conditioning and instructional swim. After completing the clinic, 14 year old participants are eligible for a Teen Passport Card to use the Fitness Center. 9:30 am -12:00 pm Family: $140; Youth: $185; Non-Member: $235
Rye Nature Center
When school is closed for a day or a week, our workshops and vacation camps offer hands-on time outside and endless possibilities for adventure. Workshops and vacation camps are for children in preschool through fifth grade, unless noted otherwise. Children should dress for the weather and bring lunch. Pre-registration required. $70/child per day members, $80/child per day non-members. See dates below for specific times.
STEM Challenge Day
Wednesday, December 27: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Put on your jacket and bundle up as we are heading out to our STEM challenge course! Children will develop team-building skills as they work together to balance our whale watch, fit through our honeybee hive, and pump water through our log fume.
Water in Winter
Thursday, December 28: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
What does our pond look like in the winter? Join us as we explore what occurs beneath the ice during the winter. Children will learn how frogs drop their body temperature and bury themselves in the mud beneath the pond to survive the cold.
All That Evergreen
Friday, December 29: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
While most trees lose their leaves for the winter, there are a few that do not. Those are the evergreens! How do they do it? Children will learn the adaptions that allow evergreens to conserve water and survive during a white winter. Children will collect samples of various evergreens including pine, spruce, and holly to examine and identify.

WINTER WONDERLAND CARTOONS CAMP Ages 6 – 12 Wed – Fri, Dec. 27 – 29, 9:00 – 12:00 noon Program Site: Damiano Recreation Center. Fee: $110 resident; $135 non-resident Rejuvenate your child’s spark and creativity this winter with a Young Rembrandts cartoon class. Your child will be on the quick road to cartoon mastery as he or she tackles our fun drawing lessons. In keeping with the season, our students will also have the opportunity to show off their humor as they draw our reindeer imposters, the fun and chaos of shopping and a gift giving sequence.
VIDEO GAMES AND FAVORITE APPS CAMP Ages 6 – 12 Wed- Fri, Dec. 27 – Dec. 29, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Program Site: Damiano Recreation Center Fee: $110 resident; $135 non-resident Art is all around us, including on phones and online! Join Young Rembrandts for a workshop mimicking the amazing imagery of our Favorite Apps and Video Games! Every day students will learn new illustration and coloring techniques inspired by popular video games. Artwork is inspired by a pixel block characters, plants, zombies and many more classic apps and games. If your child loves to game or draw, they’ll have a blast putting their own personal touches on some of these favorites!
STAR WARS LIVE ACTION FLIX CAMP Grades 2 – 5 Tue – Fri, Dec. 26 – 29, 9:00 – 12:00 noon Program Site: Damiano Recreation Center Fee: $155 resident; $180 non-resident Use the Force to write, direct, film, and star in your very own Star Wars Live Action Movie! You can be a Jedi Knight, a Sith Lord, an X-Wing Tie Fighter pilot, or even a cool droid like R2-D2 or C3PO in an original Star Wars movie you create! Kids will work together on the movie going through the Hollywood process from “Action” to “Cut” and “That’s a Wrap!” Come join the fun, and “May the Force be with you!” *Flix downloadable within a month after camp ends.

Create multiple stop motion movies using everything from toy cars to white boards. Vacation Camp – Kids U Vacation Camp is offered during school vacations and days off from school. Our next camp will be December 26-29. Sessions are 9:15-12:15 or 9:15-2:15. Cost is $55/child, $50/sibling (3 hours), $75/child, $70/sibling (5 hours) and is for children ages 3-9.

Music and Movement/Toddler – Preschool. Wednesdays, 9:30, 10:15, 11:00. Children will Wiggle to music, giggle to funny rhymes and pretend to be wild and wonderful animals in this lively interactive program with “Dawny Dew” Halasz. Music is a natural connection tool. It brings people together and helps them interact with one another. Children are engaged with the use of puppets, felt board activities, nursery rhymes, and songs. We encourage active participation by parents and other caregivers. This 20 minute weekly musical program promotes early language skills and socialization. Since space is limited you may attend only 1 session per day.
Please note that doors close 5 minutes after the program begins to prevent interruptions and help focus audience attention on the presenter. Please be prepared to enjoy the Children’s Room while waiting for the next session to begin.

Young Discoverers: Our Animal Friends in Winter

Visitors will become junior ornithologists and zoologists and share what they know about what birds and bears do in the winter. We will examine real seagull feathers and introduce new words : migrate – hibernate and more. We will listen to a story “ WHEN WINTER COMES” and make our own birds to take home-using real feathers. We will then go into a “make believe cave” and HIBERNATE!!!

How do people, animals and birds stay warm in the winter in their own unique ways? Join our weekly Exploring Play program to pretend to hibernate in a cave like a bear; storytime with a bear who can’t fall asleep in winter, touch and sort real feathers; and use colorful feathers to make their own birds to take home.
Exploring Play, held on Friday mornings, is designed for children ages 2 to 4. Every month will feature a new theme brought to life for young children through creative and fun movement activities; song; story and a take home project for all. Parents and caregivers are provided with information on the latest developments in Play research for young children. Come join the fun!
