Joystick jockeys and PC pros rejoice! The latest addition to the White Plains Galleria mall is the Twenty-First Century answer to the penny arcade. Battleground Zero, which is looking to open the third week of March, is Westchester’s first professional-grade eSports arena.
The U.K.-based company has locations all over the world, from as close as Canada to as far afield as Russia.
“The Galleria at White Plains is a shopping destination that serves Westchester County, and the Bronx,” says Laurence Williams, Public Relations Officer for Battlground Zero. “The mall is easily accessible by mass transit routes from all over as well as several major highways. White Plains also has been dubbed the “fastest growing city in New York.” We found that the property’s layout was more than adequate to host large gaming events [and] the management team at the Galleria at WP is eager to host events for the community.”
The 4,000 square foot facilities offer top-of-the-line Alienware PC setups from Dell, as well as a tremendous number of some of the most popular team-based and open-world games on the market, everything from Minecraft and Hearthstone, to retro titles like Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong, to the likes of FIFA, Destiny 2, and League of Legends. Prefer playing on your own custom rig? BGZ has you covered as well. They’ve set aside plenty of space where you can hook up your own laptops and desktops, or even just your own keyboards, mice, and mouse pads — plus the patent and tech-savvy staff necessary to interface everything for your maximum benefit.

Professional teams will be able to compete in regional and eventually national and international tournaments.

Battleground Zero is a great place to level-up your party for an afternoon, but if you’re looking to really up your game(s), you might consider a membership. Low-end plans start at just a few hours at a time, all the way up to VIP plans as high as two hours daily for the whole month.
If that sounds a bit excessive, just remember that all that training has a purpose: Battleground Zero will also  be hosting tournaments and monthly events with cash prizes for the most skillful teams and players! If you think LoL* is no laughing matter and COD** could mean cash in your pocket, these are the matches where you want to be competing. (And being located just across from Forever 21, it’s also a great place to kill some time at the mall, even for newbs!)
