Babbling Brook Transitional Kindergarten
Transitional Kindergarten is an opportunity to bridge the social-emotional and academic needs for young students to move from Nursery School to Kindergarten happily and successfully. The small class size (maximum of 6 students) gives ample opportunity to give individualized attention and to foster a love of learning. Four and five year old children that have had one year of Pre-K or have not completed Pre-K are welcome.
The program is taught by a dual certified NYS elementary general and special education teacher. The curriculum is project based learning with a focus on phonics, reading and math. Integrated lessons in science, civics, social and environmental studies make learning engaging and fun!
The program takes place in a dedicated teaching space within a home in Rye Brook with ample indoor and outdoor space for learning and play.

The Children’s School Preschool
The Children’s School. When it comes to education, we celebrate the adage: Don’t save the best for last. Decades of research have proven the early years are the most important in a child’s entire education. More than middle school, high school and college? Yes. Because the period from birth to age 8 is when a foundation for life is created. Deep curiosity. Interests. Passions. Skills. Confidence. Respect for others, oneself and the natural world. Put those together, and it adds up to good habits of heart and mind for a lifetime.
That is why we at The Children’s School have focused on early childhood education for 56 years, with a clear mission—nurturing good habits of heart and mind through an individualized learning program and unsurpassed teaching talent. Head of School Maureen Murphy explains, “In that time, we have melded the very best thinking about children’s astonishing capacity to learn with five decades of working with children ourselves.”
That expertise means that each student is known and supported in our classrooms, courtesy of a 6-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio. Every student has a learning program designed expressly for them, with careful monitoring and record keeping that allow for swift adjustments if necessary at The Children’s School. It also means your child is immersed in a curriculum rich in music, art, science, movement, technology, books and more books, and a suite of learning materials that beckon children to play, which, as we know, is the basis of all learning for children. Our five-acre sustainable campus and state-of-the-art building and Art Barn enfold students in the wonders of discovering the world and self-expression.
Community Synagogue of Rye
At Community Synagogue, we believe the purpose of an early childhood program is to provide a sensory rich environment where children feel safe to explore, experiment and ask questions. We offer children technology free experiences that feed their senses and support mindfulness for themselves and the world around them. Communication and language are crucial to a child’s education and are key in supporting early literacy. Equally important to our program is the development of social and emotional skills and the understanding of kindness, empathy and community. Universal human values are woven into our curriculum in ways that can be appreciated and understood by young children. Our goal is to provide a strong foundation that the children and their families can carry with them to elementary school and beyond.

Rye Nature Center Preschool
Hiking the forest, catching dragonflies, digging for worms, and listening to songbirds – FRNC believes these activities are the best foundation for early childhood development. Our programs are based on the Swiss concept of forest kindergarten, which utilizes experiential, place-based, student-led activities with nature as the primary setting. Our staff creates an atmosphere that prioritizes the development of the whole child to create a dynamic for children to grow and succeed. We offer two preschool programs at Friends of Rye Nature Center:
- Five-Day Forest Preschool – Choose our morning or afternoon session (Monday through Friday)
- Preschool Ecology – Choose one or two days a week to attend (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday Afternoons)
Our Preschool Ecology program and morning session of our Forest Preschool offer walking options to some local preschools if you are looking for full-day programs for your child.
Registration Dates: Online registration for Forest Preschool begins November 2021, Preschool Ecology will begin in January 2022.
